2014 Elections SWE Exec

Freshman Rep Application and Presentation Follow Up

For those who were able to make it to the SWE informational dinner tonight, we hope that you were able to see why so many women here have found the organization to be such a valuable part of their MIT experience. If you missed it, you can view the promotional video or the presentation.

In order to take attend most of SWE's events however, sign up to be a National member -- $20 for one year and $50 for all four years (recommended for freshmen and sophomores), plus you'll be reimbursed for half.

Finally, applications are open for Freshman Representatives and for two chair positions. Applications are due at 11:59 PM on Sunday, September 15th.

If you have any other questions about SWE, please don't hesitate to let us know.

Join SWE Today!

Join the Society of Women Engineers, one of MIT's largest student groups, and take advantage of tons of resources available to members!
  • Participate in more than 1 event per week such as study breaks, Meet the Professors Dinners, networking, professional development, mentorship, and more.
  • Develop leadership experience on the SWE Board.
  • Mentor through one of our numerous Outreach programs.
  • Connect with Boston area professional and college women in engineering.
To get involved, register as a National Member. Follow the instructions and we will reimburse half of your membership and add you to the national members mailing list. We will be having our welcome event on Saturday, September 7th for new members where you can meet and learn more about MIT SWE.

Announcing the 2013 MIT SWE Future Leaders

 I am excited to announce that four board members have been selected to represent MIT and Region F as SWE Future Leaders this year:

These ladies will have the opportunity to represent Region F (and of course MIT) at the Collegiate Leadership Institute to be held during the SWE Annual Conference in Baltimore on Saturday, Oct 26th.

MIT has the second highest number of SWEFLs compared against every other section in the United States, and we know they will represent us well. Congrats ladies!

In light of the tragic events last night on the MIT campus, our WiSE (Women in Science and Engineering) panel tomorrow is canceled.
Please stay safe.  If you feel overwhelmed, please talk with a trusted adult and/or call MIT Urgent Care 617-253-4481 who can put you in contact with a mental health professional.
Students: If you have any questions that you wanted to ask our undergrad panelists, feel free to email me and I'll get responses back for you.

Apply for 2013 SWE Planning Board!

If you have any questions regarding the various positions, we will be hosting a welcome event with a casual Q&A on Monday, February 4 at 6-7pm in 5-234.

Are you interested in getting involved with SWE? Do you want to develop your leadership abilities and have fun? Do you like teaching students about math and science? Do you want to get involved with professional development and networking? Do you want to throw study breaks and plan social events? Do you have interest in where women stand in the world beyond MIT?
Apply to join the 2013 MIT SWE Planning Board! Descriptions of the available 2013 board can be found here.

Anyone is welcome to apply to join our board.Please note: to apply to join the SWE Board, you must be a National member of SWE. Not a member but want to apply? You can register as a National Member (membership tab, join swe) today! Registration costs $20 per year or $50 for a 5 year Collegiate to Career registration (recommended for freshmen and sophomores). Just make sure to register for the MIT (F059) section and use your MIT email address. You MUST also notify MIT SWE of your new membership using this form or you will not be added to the members email list! Please forward your membership confirmation to and to ensure you will be reimbursed.

To apply for board, please fill out the form by 11:59pm on Tuesday, February 5. In addition, please email a website worthy photo of yourself to  Interviews for positions will be held on Thursday, February 7th or Saturday the 9th.
All Board Members are required to complete 3 hours of volunteering at Outreach events and attend 3 events outside of those that they have planned. In addition, attendance to the Board Retreat Saturday, February 16 (all day) is required along with 4 board meetings scheduled this semester.
